My Knitting patterns

Interestingly, I have had this website since 2016 and never added any of my patterns, so, here goes. If you want a quick link to my patterns, the link is here

Below, I will add an image for each pattern and link to the pattern below each photo – here they are, in no particular order

Kaleidoscope Jumper Pattern – August 2025

Dear lover of colourful yarn, I am so happy to bring you this One Size, (44-inch chest) traditional Shetland Tree and Star motif jumper pattern, with contrasting Tree motif sleeves to make a winter woolly in a classic V neck design with a contemporary feel. It is a kaleidoscope of dancing colour to brighten up any cold day.

My Kaleidoscope jumper, is a celebration of pinks and blues initially inspired by the Cherry Blossom trees that festooned Sheffield in April but as knitting the bands of motifs developed, together, they created an overall kaleidoscope effect. So, the jumper named itself.

This is a 14-page pattern containing written instructions and 7 full colour charts. Some charts are enlarged so that they are easier to see, some fit to an A4 sheet so that you can see the overall effect. There is a link to my Instagram post on how to graft the sleeve and links to help you do the grafted shoulders and mitred V neck.

This is my most brave and perfect knitting design. As an independent designer, that has spent every day over 5 months designing, knitting, charting and writing this pattern, please do not share it with friends.

Fair Isle pullover/ vest chart Included in this worksheet, are 2, A4 sized complete, full colour charts used in my pullover / vest. Chart 1, is my full body chart and the sleeve is chart 2. All of the, (more than) 90 colours that I used in this jumper are listed. I am giving you the tools to make your own road map for your own vest or pullover, or scarf, or hat. You can incorporate any of these 11 large Fair Isle OXO motifs and 12 peerie motifs into any of your own projects and use any colours that you have or even just use 2 colours.

The 190 row pattern charts in multiples of 24 stitch repeats, included in this work sheet, are not a jumper pattern, nor a vest pattern. What I have produced is a worksheet including the entire range of Fair Isle OXO motif bands that I have knitted. I have built them into 2 large full charts with a clear centre stitch line marked so that you too, can either replicate my jumper entirely, or move the patterns and colours around to your own taste. One sleeve of my project is knitted in traditional OXO Fair Isle patterns – the other is knitted using Aran twisting, following how I sometimes braid in my hair in French plaits. I have not included the Aran sleeve charts in this worksheet but the neck aran pattern is included.

The motifs and colours within this worksheet, are a treasure trove of endless possibilities for you to be creative and make your own vest or pullover by incorporating them into your own favourite vest or jumper pattern.

Tree and Star hat pattern My Tree and Star hat design is a remake of my original Sea Urchin Hat pattern but this time, I have used Jamieson & Smith Woolbrokers 2ply Jumper weight / 4ply/fingering yarn. I have also used different size needles to create a more slouchy hat than the original beanie shape and there are more details in this pattern to help you achieve the look you want.
Yarn:Jamieson & Smith, 2ply Jumper Weight, 4ply/fingering (2ply refers to the plys in the yarn, this wool is a 4ply Woollen Spun thickness) 25g ball approximately 105m/114yds. 100% Pure Shetland Wool
9 Balls of J&S 2 ply Jumper weight yarn are used – all colours are listed in the pattern.

Long Fair Isle Hat / scarf pattern – I am excited to bring you this 12 page pattern containing a complete guide of size, gauge, colour motifs and text for this written and charted Long Fair Isle, Kep/Scarf.

There are 10 Full colour charts, over 8 pages, showing clear motif and colour layout, ranging from a full page colour overview of the full pattern to additional pages of magnified, larger scale sections of the charts in order for you to see them easily.

Additional to the Fair Isle colour charts, there are written and photographic instructions and I have included a full Sanquhar alphabet and numbers 0-9 so that you may personalise your own work, with your own meaningful words, names or dates knitted into your hat so that you can make it your own.

This Fair Isle long Kep/ scarf, is a bright, fun, functional, practical, colourful, wearable long hat, designed using large traditional OXO and smaller peerie Fair Isle motifs to create a unique long hat.

Chunky Knit vest This Quick knit, chunky vest pattern is a very quick and easy knit using up any of your chunky weight stash yarn or thick and fluffly yarns plied together.
It is a fun project.
You have your stash because you have loved it at one time or another and if you have collected lots of unused yarn, now is the time to have a go and use some of it up to make something you will love to wear and enjoy seeing all your yarns in one garment

Little Kisses Mitts. This pattern is a very easy knit using a cute peerie Shetland motif, which looks like little hearts in boxes. The motif is very easy and when you have set up the first round, you will not have to look at the chart again until the round to insert your thumbs.

The thumb is easy to knit. I have added a written instruction and photo tutorial to take you through all the stages to produce neat little thumbs in your mitts.

Sea Urchin Mitts This glove pattern is designed as a companion pattern to the Sea Urchin hat. They have both been a joy to design and make.

There is a step by step photo tutorial on how to knit a thumb included in this pattern. The pattern is knitted in the round with a chart of 53 stitches wide and 29 rows. The chart is placed in such a way that a central pattern of a Traditional Shetland Star sits on the back of your hand and the join of each round falls in the middle of the palm. I have done this purposely so that the small step in pattern at the join point of each round is not on the side of the hand, where it would be noticeable, but in the palm. The pattern joins in the centre of the palm at the tree branches.

They’re so much fun that you’ll not be able to put them down both whilst making them and wearing them when they’re part of your Autumn Wardrobe.

Kyoto Baby and matching adult hat – Kimono

An adult beanie pattern, inspired by the colours in a Silk Wedding Kimono, that I saw being made in Gion, Kyoto, in the Winter of 2023. Full blog here https://traceydoxey.com/2024/01/28/kyoto-baby/ This little pattern is the result of that experience and inspiration of colour. It has a simple, easy to follow cabled rib, which emulates the padded hem of the kimono. The body of the hat is made up in simple stranded colourwork.

Stash Buster Neck Warmer – I designed and knitted this jewel-like, colourful, neck warmer, for practical reasons – mainly because my face got cold while I was biking to the swimming pool at 6:30am every day in the Winter and Spring and I needed to keep warm. I also wanted the finished neck warmer to have a Persian carpet look using traditional Fair Isle motifs.

There are 8 traditional Fair Isle Motifs in this pattern using 24 stitches each and 17 rows.
Each Motif is knitted in 2 colour ways making 16 little motif charts. This pattern includes charts for all 16 motifs plus additional b/w charts, just in case you would like to colour them in using your own choices and use your stash to knit this little project. The pattern is called, Stash Buster and could be very simple because, you could knit it in only 2 colours.

Fiona Blue fingerless mitts. One of my most favourite and meaningful knitting patterns. This mitt pattern is designed using Shetland traditional motifs in hues of blue and has been made in memory of a beautiful woman. Fiona was kind, loving, supportive, honest and intuitive as well as being creative. She reached out to me when I was living in Shetland and offered me the hand of friendship and the loyal ear of a friend. I will never forget her kindness. Fiona sadly died on 22nd April 2023. The colours for these mitts have been inspired by her pure blue eyes.

Pink Kitchen hat – This beautiful berry coloured hat can be made and worn as a slouchy hat, slightly bigger than a beanie, or it can be blocked as a Beret. I have kept mine as a loose topped slouchy hat that covers my ears. It has been entirely inspired by
my Sheffield kitchen and the warm pinks that I painted it.

The pattern has both chart and written instructions for the motifs and crown decreases.

An exciting extra addition to this pattern is that I have also provided a b/w chart for the body and crown as well as a colour chart. I teach online colour blending workshops for Fair Isle knitting and the b/w chart will enable you to use your own colour choices, if you so wish for this project.

New Year Beret – This pattern is an adaption of my original β€˜Good Wishes for the New Year’, snug beanie that was inspired by Susan Halcrow – a gentle looking woman who I found had, for 83 years, had lived in the house that I bought in Shetland.

Susan Halcrow, was first introduced to me when I started asking my neighbours in Levenwick village, about her. She was born in the croft house that I bought in Shetland, in 1876 and died in 1960.

This New Year Beret pattern includes research photographs of Susan Halcrow and information on my original findings. For further stories go to traceydoxey.com
